Midsommar ไม่ใช่หนังผี แต่มีความสยองขวัญอยู่ภายในตัวเอง หนังจะเล่นกับความกลัวของคน โดยเฉพาะคนมีปมในเรื่องต่างๆ หนังจะกดดันเราให้เรารู้สึกหวาดระแวง และไม่เชื่อใจอะไรทั้งสิ้น. ภายในหนังจะไม่มีการจัมพ์สแกร์ แบบหนังผีทั่วไป หรือมีเสียงดังทำออกมาให้คนตกใจหรือตื่นกลัว แต่หนังจะค่อยๆบิ้วให้เรารู้สึกอึดอัดตั้งแต่เริ่มเรื่องและมันจะค่อยๆมากขึ้น ทับถมไปเรื่อยๆจนเราอาจรู้สึกเหมือนโดนครอบงำ เหมือนเราเป็น 1 ในตัวละครที่เราอยู่ตรงนั้น ในประเพณี เทศกาล วัฒนธรรมที่น่าขนลุกแห่งนี้
หากมองในมุมของผู้เขียน Midsommar ไม่ใช่หนังผี แต่เป็นหนังที่นำเสนอประเพณี วัฒนธรรมโบราณ ที่มีความน่ากลัวแฝงอยู่ลึกๆของชนกลุ่มหนึ่ง สำหรับพวกเขามันอาจจะเป็นเรื่องปกติ แต่สำหรับคนภายนอกมันอาจจะเป็นเรื่องสยองขวัญ เหมือนอย่างเช่นสังคมปัจจุบันที่มีหลายๆวัฒนธรรมแตกต่างกันออกไปทั่วโลก ที่หากเราซึ่งเป็นคนภายนอกได้เข้าไปพบเจออาจจะมองมันว่าแปลก แต่คนในพื้นที่อาจจะเห็นว่ามันเป็นสิ่งที่ธรรมดาก็ได้ เพียงแต่ Ari Aster ได้นำเสนอมันออกมาในรูปแบบของความงดงามในตัวของเทศกาลที่มาพร้อมกับความน่ากลัวนั่นเอง
อีกหนึ่งสิ่งที่น่าสนใจในหนังเรื่องนี้คือ การแสดงของ Florence Pugh ในบท Dani เธอถ่ายทอดอารมณ์ออกมาได้ดีและทรงพลังมาก โดยเฉพาะเหล่าฉากที่เธอต้องแสดงอารมณ์ เก็บกด หรือร้องไห้ มันยิ่งตอกย้ำความกลัวลงลึกเข้าไปในจิตใจคนดูอย่างเรา และเตรียมพบกับผลงานชิ้นต่อไปของเธอได้ใน Little Woman และ Black Widow นะ
